FR SKATES Street Frame Review: A Game-Changing UFS Flat Frame?

FR SKATES x OYSI: A Powerful Collaboration

In the summer of 2024, FR SKATES announced the upcoming release of its first UFS aggressive inline frame.

For the project, FR SKATES teamed up with Cletus Kuhn, the creator and owner of OYSI Frames, a well-known name in the world of UFS flat and big-wheel frames.

OYSI became known for frames designed around flat setups with larger wheels, while maintaining a generous H-Block for grinding.

FR SKATES brought in Cletus' experience while adding its own requirements to create a versatile, accessible and street-focused frame.

With two brands this committed to skating working together, we obviously had to put it through a proper test!

Built for Flat — But Ready for Antirocker

The FR SKATES Street frame is primarily designed for a flat setup, with four identical wheels all contacting the ground.

In its maximum configuration, it supports a 4x60mm setup without modifications.

But FR SKATES went a step further.

The frame can also be used in an antirocker setup, giving skaters the flexibility to switch configurations depending on their preferred style.

Three Frame Lengths

To accommodate a wide range of boot sizes, the FR SKATES Street is available in three lengths:

• S: 241mm
• M: 260mm
• L: 275mm

These three sizes cover approximately EU 35/36 through EU 46/47, while maintaining either a 4x60mm flat setup or an antirocker configuration.

The center axle-to-axle spacing is also 11.5cm, creating a generous central grinding area.

Designed for Street Skating

The outer edges of the frame are shaped to reduce contact with the obstacle and provide a smooth grind.

The central block also covers the middle wheels effectively, helping reduce the risk of wheel bite.

If you've ever had a wheel catch the obstacle during a grind and bring you to an instant stop, you already know exactly why this matters! ?

8mm Axles and Metal Spacers

The FR SKATES Street uses 8mm axles with a two-tool design, along with metal side spacers.

This allows you to tighten the wheel properly without putting excessive pressure on the bearings or causing the wheel to bind.

It's a small detail, but one that makes a real difference during setup and maintenance.

Antirocker: A Real Upgrade Option

One of the frame's biggest advantages is its versatility.

If your soulplates have enough clearance, the FR SKATES Street can be used in antirocker with large outer wheels.

Depending on the frame size, you can run up to:

• 62mm in the standard configuration
• 65mm on the S / 241mm frame
• 72mm on the M and L / 260mm and 275mm frames

That gives you the option to switch between flat and antirocker without having to completely change your frame.

FR SKATES also includes 8 mounting bolts in two different lengths, allowing the frame to accommodate different soulplate heights.

Bolton's 4-Month Test

To be completely honest, I hadn't skated a flat setup in quite a while.

For my test setup, I went with 4x60mm wheels, using FR SKATES Round 88A wheels on the outside and BLANK Hydrogen 92A wheels in the middle.

And the first big surprise was that I experienced almost no wheel bite from the middle wheels.

The frame was therefore very easy to get used to, and I quickly felt comfortable on the setup.

Excellent Grinding Performance

During the following sessions, I tested the frames on different types of obstacles at my local skatepark: square rails, round rails, metal and concrete.

The result was consistently positive.

The frames grind extremely well, both in makios and regular grinds.

The performance remained consistent across different surfaces, and I didn't experience any significant premature wear.

After four months of skating, I also had the opportunity to ride the frames at several different skateparks to make sure my initial impressions held up.

They did.

My Verdict on the FR SKATES Street

For me, the FR SKATES Street is currently one of the best compromises available for a flat setup.

Why?

Because it's not too long, not too short, and more importantly, its height with a 4x60mm setup is very well controlled.

That's important because some similar flat frames can sit quite high, making topsides more difficult to manage.

I also had the chance to ride the Standard and Cougar frames in flat configurations during this testing period, and neither matched the FR SKATES as closely to what I was looking for.

The grinding performance remains excellent across different surfaces, and after several months, wear has remained surprisingly low.

Final Verdict: A Great Way Into Flat

If you've been thinking about switching to flat but are worried about riding too high or dealing with wheel bite, this frame deserves a serious look.

It offers an excellent balance of speed, maneuverability, grinding performance and ride height, while still giving you the option to switch back to antirocker.

And the price is another strong point: just €59.99 per pair.
