Uzès – Pont du Gard Greenway on Inline Skates: 25 km Through the Gard
The Uzès – Pont du Gard Inline Skating Route
Hello, it's Bolton, always on the lookout for great inline skating routes in southern France!
Today I'm taking you along the Uzès – Pont du Gard Greenway, in the Gard region. It's an enjoyable and relatively easy ride, with an amazing reward at the end: the spectacular Pont du Gard!
To get started, head to Uzès, not far from the Haribo factory and museum. Follow the greenway signs with the little bicycle symbol and park close to the beginning of the route, near the intersection of Chemin de Malaric and Chemin du Mas Saint-Jean.
Let's roll!
? A Long Straight Section to Start
Right from the beginning, you'll find yourself on a long straight section with a clean, smooth and well-maintained surface.
The greenway is wide enough to comfortably pass other skaters, cyclists and walkers.
There are a few road crossings along the way. Visibility isn't always perfect, so slow down well before each intersection and stay alert.
Nothing particularly difficult, but there's no reason to get carried away with your speed!

A Few Minor Challenges
The route is generally easy, but there are two sections worth mentioning.
? An Unpaved Section Near Vers-Pont-du-Gard
Near the old Vers-Pont-du-Gard railway station, you'll encounter a short unpaved section.
It's not paved, but don't worry: it's still quite manageable on inline skates.
Simply slow down slightly and pay attention to the surface.
? A Road Underpass
You'll also pass through a short underpass with a small downhill section followed by an uphill section.
Again, there's nothing particularly difficult or dangerous here. The drain covers at the bottom of the underpass don't create any major problems either.

?️ Heading Toward the Pont du Gard
After the long straight section, you'll reach a roundabout where roads D981 and D227 meet.
Follow the signs toward Pont du Gard.
This section is slightly different because you'll be skating alongside the road on a designated path which is not particularly wide.
Stay alert and pay attention to both other users and traffic.
You'll then reach another small roundabout. Turn right toward Pont du Gard – Rive Gauche Parking.
?️ Skating Across the Pont du Gard!
Once you reach the parking area, cross it to get to the site entrance.
Access to the Pont du Gard site is free for pedestrians, and therefore also for inline skaters. If the site is busy, use the sidewalks and reduce your speed.
You'll then pass the shops and museum. A useful tip: there are restrooms available on site.
And then… there it is!
You can simply roll gently toward the magnificent Pont du Gard.
And yes, you can even cross the Pont du Gard on skates!
This is definitely the highlight of the entire ride.

? My Advice: Go Early!
I personally did this route one morning in late May.
I arrived at the site around 8:30 AM, and there was almost nobody there. It was incredibly quiet and honestly, an absolute pleasure!
Having the Pont du Gard, the Gardon River and the surrounding scenery almost to yourself was an amazing experience.
During the main tourist season, however, the site can get much busier.
So if you can, I strongly recommend starting early in the morning.
? A Swimming Break in Summer?
If you're doing this route during the warmer months, you can also consider taking a swimming break in the Gardon River, depending on local conditions and permitted areas.
And if you're still feeling motivated afterwards, why not extend your ride?
By crossing to the right bank, you can connect with another greenway heading toward Comps and continue skating for even more kilometers.
For a simple day out, the Pont du Gard route is already more than enough. But for stronger skaters looking for extra distance, there are options to extend the adventure.
? Back to Uzès
After enjoying the Pont du Gard and its incredible views over the Gardon, it's time to turn around.
The good news is that the return trip is easy.
The route is mostly flat and doesn't involve any major physical challenges. Simply follow the greenway back toward Uzès and enjoy the ride.
The total distance is approximately 25 km round trip.
That's a great distance for a relaxed skating session without having to dedicate an entire day to a demanding ride.
? A Sweet Stop at Haribo?
Here's a little bonus for anyone with a sweet tooth!
Since the starting point is close to the Haribo factory and museum, you can finish your adventure with a quick stop for some candy before heading home.
Because after 25 km on skates… you've definitely earned a few gummy candies! ?
⭐ The Pros
- An easy and mostly flat greenway
- Smooth skating surface
- Wide enough to comfortably pass other users
- Suitable for a range of skating levels
- Spectacular arrival at the Pont du Gard
- You can cross the Pont du Gard on skates
- Possibility of extending the ride toward Comps
⚠️ The Cons
- The unpaved/gravel section near Vers-Pont-du-Gard
- Several road crossings requiring caution
- The designated path alongside the road before the Pont du Gard is fairly narrow
- The site can become crowded depending on the time of day and season
? My Take on the Uzès – Pont du Gard Greenway
If you're looking for an easy inline skating route in the Gard, this one is definitely worth checking out.
The route has no major difficulties and the approximately 25 km round trip makes it a great option for an enjoyable ride without being overly demanding.
But above all, the destination makes the trip special: the Pont du Gard is simply spectacular.
To get the most out of the experience, my advice is simple: start early, especially during the tourist season.
And if you still have energy left, you can always extend your ride toward Comps.
? An easy, enjoyable inline skating adventure with an absolutely incredible finish!
