Roller Greenway - La Vaunage (30)

The classic route: Caveirac - Sommières

From Caveirac to Sommières, the greenway is a slight downhill gradient. You quickly pick up speed in this direction, but that also means the return journey is more demanding, especially between Langlade and Caveirac.

After a full out-and-back ride, this final section can feel endless!

Most regular riders choose to park in Calvisson, then skate to Langlade, continue towards Sommières and finally return to Calvisson.

If you ride the Caveirac / Sommières section, you will pass through Calvisson, with two small tunnels passing underneath the road, one before and one after the local school.

Don't worry about the metal grids at the bottom of the tunnel descents: they are perfectly manageable on skates.

Once past the school, you will reach the Calvisson sports fields, with the skatepark on your left and, just a few dozen metres further, the pumptrack!

A perfect opportunity for a little freestyle break during your ride if you're feeling motivated… ?

This section between Caveirac and Sommières includes quite a few road crossings. They are generally well signposted and visibility is good, but remember: you do not have priority.

Take care when crossing and slow down properly at every intersection.

A new section: Sommières - Fontanès

From Sommières to Fontanès, the greenway climbs very gradually. The elevation gain is low, making this new section quite accessible.

This part of the route is relatively new and has an excellent surface, making it particularly enjoyable on skates.

Along this section, you will pass through a fairly long tunnel and ride alongside the Villevieille mill as you leave Sommières.

After crossing the D6110, which cuts across the greenway, you will pass a motocross track.

⚠️ Be especially careful when crossing the D6110: cars can approach at fairly high speed.

The pros ?

• The surface is generally very good.
• The route passes through several pleasant little villages.
• Plenty of animals and beautiful scenery along the way.
• Several rest areas with tables, benches and water points.
• A skatepark and pumptrack are located directly along the route.

The cons ?

• The small climb between Langlade and Caveirac on the way back, which can really finish off your legs at the end of a long ride! ?
• The many road crossings, which require extra attention.

Despite these few drawbacks, the Vaunage Greenway remains an excellent destination for a long roller skating session, offering varied scenery, beautiful surroundings and plenty of opportunities to take a break or have some fun along the way.
