How Do LUMINOUS Wheels Produce Light?

You might think the LEDs are powered by friction between the spacer and the wheel core.

Well… not at all!

The system works through an electromagnetic process.

LUMINOUS wheels use a small generator made up of magnets inside the spacer and coils integrated into the wheel core.

As the wheel spins, the magnets pass close to the coils and generate an electrical current through electromagnetic induction.

That current powers the LEDs built into the wheel.

And BAM ? — you've got light-up wheels!

No Battery. No Charging.

One of the biggest advantages of the LUMINOUS system is that it works without a battery and without charging.

No need to remember to charge your wheels before heading out for a night skate.

The system also keeps rolling resistance low because the magnetic components do not directly rub against the wheel core.

How Do You Install LUMINOUS Wheels?

The good news: installation is very straightforward.

1. Choose the Right Wheel Size

First, check the maximum wheel diameter supported by your skates.

Color is all about style… but wheel diameter is all about compatibility!

2. You Don't Need an Entire Set of LUMINOUS Wheels

You don't have to use LUMINOUS wheels on every position.

You can mix LUMINOUS wheels with your regular wheels, as long as they have the same diameter.

This means you can add just a few light-up wheels to your existing setup.

3. Install the Bearings and Spacer

Remove your original wheels and take out the bearings.

Install the bearings into the new LUMINOUS wheels using the specific LUMINOUS spacer supplied with the wheels.

This special spacer is essential to the system because it contains the magnetic components that generate the electrical current.

Install the wheels on your skates and you're ready to roll!

What About Different Axle Sizes?

Most LUMINOUS wheels come with spacers designed for 8mm axles, the most common standard on inline skates and roller skates.

But if your skates use a different axle diameter, there are options.

LUMINOUS also offers:

• reducers for 6mm axles that fit inside the 8mm spacers;
• specific spacers for 7mm axles.

One of My LUMINOUS Wheels Isn't Lighting Up. What Should I Do?

Don't panic if one of your wheels suddenly stops lighting up.

The first thing to check is the spacer and its magnet.

In many cases, the problem comes from this part of the system. The magnet can become worn or damaged, preventing the electromagnetic system from generating electricity.

The Quick Test

There's a simple way to identify the problem:

Take the magnet from another working LUMINOUS wheel and test it on the wheel that isn't lighting up.

If the wheel starts working again, you've found the problem: the magnet is faulty.

The good news is that the magnet can be replaced without replacing the entire wheel.

If the wheel still doesn't light up after testing or replacing the magnet, it may have suffered an impact or internal damage. In that case, the wheel will most likely need to be replaced.
