Beaucaire to Uzès Roller Trail – Via the Pont du Gard (30)

The Beaucaire to Uzès Roller Greenway is a great skating adventure through the landscapes of southern France. The highlight of the route is undoubtedly the spectacular Pont du Gard, one of France's most famous Roman monuments.

The full route is approximately 57 km round trip, with around 262 m of total elevation gain and 28 road crossings where skaters must yield.

The recommended starting point is in Beaucaire, underneath the metal bridge crossing the D90. The official greenway starts farther into Beaucaire, but the section between the town center and this starting point is not paved. The access trail is also made of dirt and stones, so it is much safer to put your skates on once you reach the paved section.

A few hundred meters after starting, the route passes through a small tunnel, providing some welcome shade and cool air, especially during hot summer days.

The trail then continues toward Comps, where you can find a water fountain and refill your bottle before continuing the ride.

Long straight sections take you through Meynes and Sernhac, eventually reaching Remoulins. Be especially careful on windy days. A strong northern wind can make the outward journey surprisingly demanding, while the return trip can be much easier with the wind behind you.

At Remoulins, the greenway temporarily disappears. You need to use the sidewalk toward the roundabout and then follow the road toward the Pont du Gard.

This section requires particular attention. The sidewalk is narrow and sometimes in poor condition, while traffic on the road can be heavy.

The road toward the Pont du Gard must then be shared with vehicles because the shoulders are made of dirt and gravel and are generally unsuitable for roller skating. The road is narrow, although there are several wider sections where you can safely move aside to let cars pass.

Reaching the Pont du Gard is the highlight of the trip. After carefully crossing the parking area, the route continues alongside the museum and shops before reaching the Gardon River.

This is the perfect place to stop, take some photos and enjoy the impressive Roman aqueduct.

The route then continues toward Vers-Pont-du-Gard, including a short but relatively smooth gravel section near the railway station, before returning to long straight sections leading toward the end of the greenway, close to the Haribo factory.

Summary

A great roller skating adventure in the Gard region, with mostly easy-to-ride sections and limited elevation gain. The visit to the Pont du Gard makes this route particularly worthwhile.

Make sure you carry enough water. Water points are available around Comps and at the Pont du Gard site. On hot days, the Gardon River can also provide a refreshing break when swimming conditions are suitable.

The most demanding section is between Remoulins and the Pont du Gard, where you have to share the road with cars and remain particularly alert.

Our advice: avoid very windy days, especially when a strong northern wind is forecast.
