How to Install and Remove Bearings from Quad Skate Wheels
Removing Quad Skate Bearings
Start by removing the wheel from the plate by loosening the axle nut.
You can then use a bearing removal tool to carefully extract the first bearing from the wheel. These tools allow you to apply leverage to the bearing and remove it progressively without damaging the wheel.
If you don't have a dedicated tool, it is also possible to use the quad skate axle as a leverage point to remove the bearings.
Whatever method you use, the goal is the same: remove the bearing progressively without unnecessary force, protecting both the bearing and the wheel hub.
Installing New Bearings
Once the wheel is empty, position the first bearing squarely in the wheel hub.
If your setup uses a bearing spacer, place it between the two bearings before installing the second one. A spacer helps maintain the correct distance between the bearings and makes it easier to tighten the wheel correctly.
Install the second bearing and press it into place until everything is properly seated.
Once the wheel is back on the axle, tighten the axle nut gradually. The goal is to have no noticeable side-to-side play while allowing the wheel to spin freely. Over-tightening can prevent the wheel from rotating correctly.
With or Without a Tool?
Both methods can work, but a dedicated bearing tool generally makes the job easier, cleaner and more controlled.
If you regularly change wheels, service your bearings or experiment with different setups, a good bearing tool is definitely worth having in your skate bag.
